OUR STORY Title

Cole’s legacy lives on in the fight against pediatric cancer

A Parent’s Worst Nightmare

Our son, Cole Henderson, celebrated his 2nd birthday on April 10, 2020. Just twelve days later, on April 22nd, we heard the words no parent ever wants to hear: “Your child has cancer.” Cole was diagnosed with stage 4, high-risk Neuroblastoma, which had already spread throughout his body.

Facing Challenges Amidst Uncertainty

The early days of COVID-19 compounded our difficulties. Hospital protocols allowed only one parent with Cole at a time, forcing us to take 24-hour shifts. Despite these challenges, we made the best of our situation.

Cole’s Brave Fight

Cole endured 5 rounds of chemotherapy, a weeklong trial MIBG therapy, 7 surgeries, a 7-week stem cell transplant, and 14 rounds of radiation—all in 10 months. Although he was declared NED (No Evidence of Disease) in November 2020, his cancer returned in February 2021, and he passed away on February 20, 2021.

A Legacy of Love and Courage

Cole showed extraordinary bravery and lit up every room with his smile. Inspired by his journey, we founded Cole’s Victory Lap to give back the love and support shown to us. Our mission is to provide the comforts that made Cole smile during his treatments.

The Meaning Behind Cole’s Victory Lap

“Cole” means “Victory,” and he achieved his ultimate victory in heaven. Cole loved watching racing, and a victory lap seemed a fitting tribute to his spirit and legacy.

Our Mission

Cole’s Victory Lap focuses on four key areas:

  • Printed Bed Sheet Sets: Bringing joy and comfort to hospital beds.
  • Drink & ‘Nack Cart: Providing essential snacks and drinks.
  • In-Patient Entertainment: Offering distractions like Apple TVs with Disney+ and Netflix.
  • Professional Photographs: Capturing precious memories for families.

Honoring Cole’s Memory

Cole’s Victory Lap honors our brave boy who fought for 10 months and 4 days. We aim to keep his memory shining in our community.

Make a Difference Today

Every year, over 50 families in the Upstate hear the devastating words, “Your child has cancer.” They join thousands of others across the nation—47 children each day—who begin the toughest fight of their young lives. That’s more than 17,000 children diagnosed with cancer each year in the U.S. alone.

Cancer doesn’t just steal childhoods; it’s the leading cause of death by disease among American children, taking the lives of approximately 1,800 kids each year.

By supporting Cole’s Victory Lap, you are helping children and families battle this relentless disease with hope, support, and the resources they need for their difficult journey.
